The staple of Depression era homes was the craftsman style home. These homes were to be simple, functional homes that met the needs of a small family.
This 1935 family home as built for Dr. Nabors, one of our early dentists. After his death, we believe the next owners were “Daddy Mac” (driver with Roadway) and Jane Patterson and their 5 children … Stalwart members of First Methodist Church, the Patterson’s anchored the neighborhood-children including one of the first Papa John franchisees, a CPA, a Boy Scouts of America exec and a Cardiovascular surgeon.
Eddie/Becky Gardner and their three daughters from Alabama were the next neighbors, starting them in their ultimate ownership of 7 or 8 renovate/flip and rent out homes in the Old Towne area.
Bert, (English teacher),and Tammy Berry and 2 daughters bought the property next. Most recently, Dr. Doug (Carson Newman College English/Freshman Advisor)/Darby Taylor and daughters Ashley and Shelby moved in. Widowed in 2007, Darby(a teacher with Douglas Cherokee) remains a great neighbor after the girls married and moved away.
